چکیده

This paper focuses on the development of high temperatures in the cutting zone during high performance grinding. In order to identify the infl uence of grinding temperature on surface integrity, temperatures were measured in the workpiece surface layer under diff erent machining conditions. Beside this, under the same conditions, the surface layer properties of the workpiece material were determined through metallographic examination. Microstructure and microhardness of the workpiece surface layer, as well as the burned surfaces and microcracks phenomena were investigated. The conducted experimental investigations allow the surface layer properties of the workpiece material in high performance grinding to be defi ned.

Surface hardness improvement in high efficiency deep grinding process by optimization of operating parameters

The grinding is one of the most important methods that directly affects tolerances in dimensions, quality and finished surface of products. One of the major problems in the material removal processes specially grinding is the heat generation during the process and the residual tensile stress in the surfaces of product. Therefore, optimization of High Efficiency Deep Grinding (HEDG) process is t...

The Finite Element Thermal Analysis of Grinding Processes by Adina

Most grinding problems cannot be solved analytically, therefore extensive numerical solutions are required by using appropriate numerical techniques such as the finite element method (FEM). In this study, the well-known finite element software, ADINA, was used to predict the phase transformation of a workpiece subjected to surface grinding. The process was considered to be two-dimensional and t...

Study on Experimental and Modeling of Rotary Roll Dressing of Grinding Wheels

Two of the important parameters in grinding operation are surface roughness of the workpiece and the amount of consumed energy. These parameters are strongly affected by the condition of grinding wheel surface which is dependent on the dressing parameters. Predicting the roughness of the grinding wheel surface after dressing with known dressing parameters can improve the grinding process. Resea...

Experimental Evaluation of a Chip Thickness Model Based on the Fracture Toughness of Abrasive and Work Material in Grinding of Alumina Ceramics

Abrasive machining in general and grinding in particular are processes, which increase their importance with high demands on accuracy of surface finish. The chip thickness is an evaluating variable to describe the quality of ground surface as well as the performance of the overall grinding system. A significant characteristic that distinguishes ceramics from metals is their low fracture toughne...

Vitreous bond silicon carbide wheel for grinding of silicon nitride

This study investigates the grinding of sintered silicon nitride using a SiC wheel with a fine abrasive grit size and dense vitreous bond. The difference of hardness between the green SiC abrasive and sintered Si3N4 workpiece (25.5 vs. 13.7 GPa) is small. Large grinding forces, particularly the specific tangential grinding forces, are observed in SiC grinding of Si3N4. The measured specific gri...
